Clarifying
Issues With Tampa Indie Film
This
post is very important to me, and I intend for it to serve as a transition.
This should, as I hope, transition
from me ranting against certain people in the Tampa indie film scene,
namely the Tampa indie film clique, to addressing Tampa indie film as
a whole.
I hope to enhance the process of communication with this post, as I clarify
my intentions and the issues that I have with the Tampa indie film clique
and the Tampa indie film scene.
Is anyone familiar with the old story "The Emperor's new clothes"?
In this story, two swindling con men convince an Emperor that they can
make clothes which are invisible. Everyone is afraid of offending the
Emperor over his lack of judgement, and go along with it.
After "spinning" large amounts of the Emperor's gold into so-called
"invisible" thread, the con men deliver his invisible suit,
which can neither be seen or touched. The Emperor is fully deluded, and
dresses up in his new suit for a parade before his kingdom. He goes through
his parade in nothing but his undergarments, and it is only when a child
shouted "The Emperor has no clothes!" did everyone realize the
truth. The Emperor, of course, was embarrassed, as his foolishness was
exposed for all to see.
What do you suppose the people did to the child once he showed them the
truth of what was going on? Was he punished for stating the obvious? Did
they take him and put him in the stocks as punishment? Did they try to
cover up their stupidity as blind followers by labeling the child a psycho
and spreading rumors about him in an attempt to destroy his credibility
so that people could continue to be deluded by a con?
No, of course not, although with a mob mentality I can see this happening
all too well.
There is a saying about assumptions. The saying goes that making an assumption,
which is concluding something without evidence and facts to support it,
makes an ass of you and me.
We're all guilty of making assumptions and prejudging people, myself included.
Speaking for myself, however, at least I am professional enough to attempt
to find out facts and evidence before I make any conclusions. It is this
scenario where one can be damned if they do, and damned if they don't.
Sometimes, even the best intentions can backfire, and no matter how you
go about doing something you're going to piss off someone.
Hey,
I'd love to be wrong about many of my observations. I'd love it if the
Tampa indie film scene was a happy place full of professionals with the
best intentions, and everyone helped each other to make films and to work
toward building a professional Tampa indie film community. Wouldn't that
be nice? Imagine a Tampa indie film community which inspires success,
and the big Tampa film festivals and the Tampa film commission support
it instead of trying to use it to attract Hollywood to Tampa because the
films done here in Tampa are a great alternative to what Hollywood does.
Imagine the Hollywood studios and distributors coming here to our film
festivals to look over the latest Tampa-produced indie films because they
are fresh, good, and marketable! Imagine Hollywood celebrities making
appearances at Tampa film festivals, not just because they are paid, but
because they are excited about Tampa filmmaking and believe in the Tampa
indie film industry!
Snap out of it. The fantasy is over. We all know what the truth is, and
you all know that what I've been writing about and ranting about is absolutely
correct.
I would love to do what Lisa does and post endless blogs praising and
supporting every single thing that goes on in the Tampa indie film scene.
I would be happy doing that, and, frankly, it would make my life a whole
lot easier.
I can't do that, however.
I
can't compromise. I can't kiss ass. I can't spin something which doesn't
deserve support or good press. I tell it how it is, and I wouldn't have
it any other way. Judging from my web site numbers and the feedback from
credible professionals who agree with me, neither would you. I am doing
the right thing by telling it how it is, and this is why my Tampa Film
Blog is the most-read Tampa indie film blog and why my sites, like Tampa
Bay Film, absolutely dominate the Tampa Bay indie film market.
I know, I know. It can be frustrating, and a little scary when you go
to your favorite search engine and find my sites are the top of most search
results for Tampa indie film and thousands of other hot topics. Sometimes,
every single result on a search result page will be one of my web sites.
It's as it should be. I can understand how demoralizing and depressing
it can be when you realize that everything that I write has many more
times the influence out of all the content that you all publish combined.
Well, my great imagination does help me empathize, because I don't relate
with how you feel from experience. I'm used to success, and this great
feeling will continue as my success snowballs.
For now, I tell it how it is and open my readers eyes to the real issues
about Tampa indie film. Soon, I will be in the position to continue telling
it how it is to an even larger audience AS I am also demonstrating solutions
by doing what most of you have been unable to do. I will make great Tampa
indie films, produce the best and most effective Tampa film festivals,
will come up with effective ways of getting things done that no one has
done before, and will introduce new ideas which will change independent
film and now it is done forever; not just in Tampa Bay, but everywhere
else.
I know, I know. It does sound like I'm bragging and that I am high on
myself. It just seems that way, however.
If you people could only see all the things that I'm working with right
now, you would be impressed. I can't go into details right now, however,
because from experience I know that every idea that I publish on a web
site is stolen, used, and plagiarized, and not only am I denied credit,
but the thieves try to discredit me and badmouth me as well.
You will all have to just wait and see what is to come.
But I am getting ahead of myself. This post is just now getting started.
Since I am going to touch on and address a list of topics in the post,
I will have to organize it like one of my web site articles. I will also
have to archive all of my older Tampa Film Blog posts to make room for
this one.
Please note that I am a qualified professional who is the top Tampa professional
in several fields, and that my opinions are polished by education, experience,
and a great deal of thought. While history has proven my opinions correct,
there is the rare possibility that I could be wrong. If anyone can prove
my opinions to be wrong, I will gladly retract said opinion, will re-address
the issue, and will be the first to publicly admit that I was wrong. Can
any of you hold yourselves to this high standard?
Let us begin.
Tampa
Indie Film Scene Issues
I will start by addressing the issues that I have with the Tampa indie
film scene, such as unprofessional films
and Tampa film festivals. Since the scope of this post is vast, I will
attempt to keep these topic opinions as short and as to the point as possible-
otherwise, Paul will cry that this Tampa Film Blog post is too long and
so boring!
Tampa
Talent and nothing to show for it.
I could go on how much Tampa indie films suck and how there are very few
good films produced by Tampa filmmakers. This said, there are obviously
some talent in the Tampa indie film scene. There is even talent in the
Tampa indie film clique! Paul and Pete have done some excellent films
lately, as an example. While I don't think that "99" is a good
film, "The end is blossoming" and some of their Ybor City films
have been quite good. Joe did an excellent jobs with "100 Tears",
and I have seen other good films. The problem is that there are more bad
films than good films done in Tampa Bay, and I am hopeful that better
films will be done soon. We have many more "life is a circus"'
type films than we have "Gunn Highway" type films.
I started making films and working on Tampa indie film projects in the
early 90's. When the most recent Tampa indie films remind me of those
early efforts that were done in production school, then yes, we have problems.
I am not impressed.
Tampa
film festivals which are misleading, pretentious, and under false pretenses.
What do I have against certain large Tampa film festivals? Could it be
that some of those large Tampa film festivals are set up to market Tampa
Bay as a production location for Hollywood? Some of these large Tampa
film festivals are done to attract the competition of Tampa indie filmmakers,
and at their expense. Oh, and it gets worse, too! The Tampa filmmakers
fail to realize what is really going on, and they blindly support the
big Tampa film festivals because they assume that everyone else is.
Does it make sense to help market resources to your competition, making
it harder to make indie films in Tampa because the big production companies
are given priority?
Tampa filmmakers need to stop supporting big Tampa film festivals which
don't have their best interests in mind and concentrate of making good
films so these film festivals begin to recognize and respect them!
Tampa
film festivals which are poorly organized, boring, and ineffective.
Yes, I have read all of the "how professional" jabs
from the Tampa indie film clique regarding my criticism of what they try
to do.
If you are going to do a Tampa film festival and are actually sincere
about wanting to help other Tampa filmmakers, you need to sit down and
do it right. Respect your audience and their time enough to plan it out
and achieve objectives. Screen your damn film submissions and program
your Tampa film festival so the audience does not have to sit through
bad films in order to get to the good ones! What good is being shown at
a film festival if everyone knows that every submission is shown? No official
selection honors there, and no accomplishment.
Plan, plan, plan. Figure out what you want to achieve and accomplish with
your Tampa film festival. Support Tampa filmmakers first and everyone
else second! Allow for professional networking with the attending Tampa
film professionals without the hidden agenda of selling them workshops,
too.
If you cannot plan, obtain event resources, secure an appropriate venue,
and execute the film festival smoothly and efficiently, by all means realize
that you are in over your head and partner with a professional event planning
company!
Well-meaning,
misguided people who follow cliques and fail to see what is really going
on.
There really is a mob mentality in the Tampa indie film scene. There are
a lot of people who are content to follow the crowd and to not think for
themselves.
I don't really think that there are many people being malicious toward
me and other entertainment professionals. In most cases, the people who
are attacking are ignorant of the reality and listen to others too much
without researching the facts and making up their own minds. As a result,
they sell themselves short. This is why bad communication, which leads
to misunderstandings and blind assumptions, is unproductive and unprofessional.
You may not like someone or agree with their views, but at least give
them the benefit of the doubt and learn the truth for yourselves!
The
Tampa indie film clique
It may be just my perception, but it is no coincidence that many share
my view. In my opinion, there is a Tampa indie film clique which is masquerading
as a Tampa indie film community. There isn't any Tampa indie film community
that anyone can see.
Cliques which are made up of insecure amateurs and who discriminate against
professionals do far more harm than good, especially when they seem to
do most of their work spreading rumors and undermining the progress in
the Tampa indie film scene.
Tampa
film networking meetings which are actually attempts to market workshops.
Come on, guys. At least be honest about the real reason that you hold
these Tampa indie film networking meetings. Do you offer workshops or
some service? It's fine, as long as you don't use the networking meetings
to sell whatever it is that you do.
A straight-up sponsorship is fine. Deceptive marketing tactics and conflicts
of interest make some meetings a scam, however, and I am willing to bet
that this is what is going on.
People
who claim to help but are only out to help themselves at the expense of
others.
Networking with and helping other Tampa indie film professionals is fine,
as long as you don't do it to benefit at their expense. My observation
is that way to many of these characters in the Tampa indie film scene
use helping others, networking, and charity as a marketing tactic. In
reality, they are only out for themselves and have no intentions with
helping anyone.
Listen to what people have to say. Watch what they do. If their actions
betray their words or, worse, they use the guise of helping others to
take advantage of people, then watch out! Run away! Such people are unprofessional,
unethical, and are not good for the Tampa indie film scene or anyone who
is around them.
In my opinion, there are too many con artists in the Tampa indie film
scene for it to progress. This is why there really isn't a thriving Tampa
indie film community, no progress is being made, and certain large Tampa
film festivals disrespect Tampa filmmakers and use them for things that
are not in the best interest of Tampa indie filmmakers.
Tampa
indie film workshops.
These are overpriced wastes of time. The Tampa indie film workshops
that I have seen are jokes. There was better indie film production training
back in the days of public access than these pathetic schemes to make
money from the Tampa filmmaking scene.
I've seen too many so-called Tampa indie filmmaker "professionals"
jump on the bandwagon and get involved with these workshops lately. Some
do it to cash in, and others for their ego's. Shame on you for contributing
to a problem and by selling out!
We need fewer people trying to make a buck off of Tampa filmmakers and
more people making Tampa indie films. Don't know how to make films? Skip
the workshops and go to an accredited film school IF you feel that you
need to go to some school for training. Better yet, find some talented
Tampa filmmakers, get involved with their projects, and help! You can
learn filmmaking while doing it, and it won't cost you anything but time.
There are also a lot great books on filmmaking that you can study and
apply to your on-the-job training.
This is how I learned filmmaking. I got to know professionals who did
television commercials for a living and who also did indie films on the
side. I learned the trade by working on television and film sets (I remember
lots of days filled with operating camera, directing, rigging lights,
doing sound, editing, technical directing, and casting, too). Sure, it
took time and was challenging work, but it didn't cost me a dime. It even
opened the door for me performing in television commercials and making
money as a professional actor (ironically, I was the only actor on set
who was permitted to handle the cameras and equipment).
On a related note, I am considered by many to be the top Tampa photographer.
Do you think that I became a professional photographer by signing up for
photography workshops? Hell no! I never bothered to take shortcuts and
did not learn the mistakes that others taught in those workshops. I learned
by doing it on my own and by collaborating with other professionals, mainly
models and talent.
I acquired cameras and paid for my film and development. I studied a lot
of photography books and practiced what I learned. As time went on, I
worked with better and better models as my portfolio evolved. I went pro
with 35 MM film cameras, and switched my photography company to digital
cameras in 2001. Today, I make more money as a professional talent photographer,
which is considered to be a limited photography market, than most Tampa
wedding photographers, which is the bread and butter of photography markets.
I've done what I've wanted to do. I am the most successful modeling and
talent photographer, and I do it without referrals from the modeling and
talent agencies.
Most of you are familiar with my work as a professional photographer.
It is obvious why I make money as a photographer. Soon, I will be known
for my events and my indie films, as well. I will also be know for introducing
revolutionary filmmaking and indie film industry ideas, too, and all of
the present nonsense and discrimination will become forgotten relics of
the past, as will the careers of certain filmmakers and these so-called
Tampa indie film workshops.
The
lack of a Tampa indie film community.
This is sad. There really isn't a Tampa indie film community right now.
Most Tampa indie film professionals refuse to get involved with may of
the insecure amateurs in the Tampa indie film scene because of the discrimination,
backstabbing, the rumors, and the cliques. Eventually, however, this will
change. One day, I will be in the position to help other professionals
form a professional Tampa indie film alliance. One day, there will be
a thriving Tampa indie film community which commands respect, and very
few of the people involved in the present Tampa film scene will be responsible
for that progress.
My dream is for a Tampa indie film community which is respected by the
Tampa film commission, the large Tampa film festivals, and Hollywood.
The days of Tampa filmmakers being used and discarded in favor of Hollywood
using Tampa Bay as a motion picture production location will be behind
us.
The
Quiet Place.
What a joke this was. My expose on this Tampa indie film disaster is finished,
but I've been sitting on it and have not published it online yet. For
those who haven't heard about it, The
Quiet Place was a short horror film intended as a collaboration of
all the major filmmakers in the so-called Tampa indie film community.
The script, penned by Chris Woods, was excellent, but the production was
rushed and sloppy, and the line cuts on the script by Paul crippled that
script. Many involved undermined each other, too, making the film production
a warzone.
The Quiet Place was done over the course of a weekend in late 2006. When
it debuted in January of 2007, it was a mess. The great script was reduced
to a film with neutered exposition (Paul) and poor characterization (Paul)
caused by line cuts. Instead of a great story, we had a film reduced to
slamming doors, screaming, and characters hugging each other in terror.
Add bad lighting, predictable plodding plotting, and over-the-top acting
by lead actor Joe Davison ("Gaaaawd Daaaaaammit!" -
Watch your delivery, sir. Watch
the film and you will see what it is that I am referring to here,
and this is only one of many examples of Joe's acting in the film), and
the film had problems.
Everyone blamed each other for how the film turned out. They are still
fighting about it. Some have blamed the director and the editor for the
shortcomings of the film, but my opinion is that it was due to excessive
line edits in the script (Paul), a rushed production schedule, bad lighting,
casting Joe Davison as the lead (not really, as he did all right in the
end.... his character just wasn't performed as well as it should have
been- Rod Grant would have done better, and Joe should have been cast
in Rod's role...... Oh, wait, that wouldn't have worked, either- it would
have wrecked the conveyor belt scene, which was the best in the movie,
and they would have had to change it because it would have physically
been impossible to do), and some other production issues. Why they didn't
story board and plan the blocking in the scenes better, I'll never know.
Hmmmmm..... The Truth About The Quiet Place - an exclusive behind-the-scenes
expose, coming to Tampa Bay Film, soon! The story must become known!
Misunderstandings,
Misled People, and Malicious Intent
I believe that very few in the Tampa indie film scene, or even the Tampa
indie film clique, have malicious intent. I now feel that most of those
who I have issues are stupid. Stupid, as in possessing low intelligence?
Not quite. Stupid as in willfully ignorant. They listen to the wrong people,
make baseless assumptions, and are ultimately misguided. If they bothered
to take the time to check the facts, they would realize that they are
fighting the wrong professional. Check my references. Listen to what I
have to say with an open mind. You will eventually understand what the
real situation is.
I am a professional who's only motivation is to help establish and grow
a genuine professional Tampa indie film community. I want to see excellent
quality, creative Indie films produced in the Tampa Bay indie film market.
I want to be able to list and support professional Tampa filmmakers and
great Tampa indie films. Unlike those who play politics, feign fake friendliness,
and who use people, I am real.
My life is an open book. I tell it how it is. Some of those fake people
out there are discovering that I know who I am and won't roll over when
attacked. I fight back and put them in their place. I also have a good
memory, and those who try to undermine me ultimately find themselves out
of a career and out of the industry.
Communication
is the key.
The Tampa indie film scene is a dysfunctional relationship of several
factions. Like most relationships, the
way to ensure stability is to deal with each other with trust. It also
helps to communicate.
Relationships only work when they are founded on a foundation of trust,
mutual respect, and understanding. Trust must be earned over time and
through actions; screw what people say because words require no effort
and actions are the only things that count. Mutual respect comes from
understanding, which can only be arrived at through communication. If
I had to rely on second-hand information and guessing when it came to
people, I wouldn't have an accurate picture of them and it would make
understanding them and dealing with them more difficult than it needs
to be.
How many productive hours do we waste dealing with issues that are not
really issues? How much time and energy do we waste fighting with people
over misunderstandings?
I like to know who I am dealing with. I talk to people. I investigate.
I like to be straight-up about my inquiries because I wish to avoid misunderstandings
and make my dealings with others smoother, and more productive.
I have come to the conclusion, and it is my opinion, that some of you
in the Tampa indie film scene, and the Tampa indie film clique, have issues.
It's not me- it's you.
Some of you are insecure to the point that you are neurotic. If you meet
a professional who you feel may be competition or better than you, you
look for reasons not to like and accept them. You look for ways of attacking
their credibility so you can reduce the perceived threat to you. If you
can't find anything wrong with them, that's not a problem, and it won't
stop you. You will simply make up things about them and spread rumors.
This has happened to me. I've sincerely tried to help. I've tried to respect
people even if I didn't agree with them. It does not work. Paranoid and
delusional? I wish that I was. Unfortunately, what has happened to me
really did happen to me. I have proof.
I wonder how many other professionals out there have been abused and turned
off by the Tampa indie film scene?
Some
of those characters in the Tampa indie film clique went even further with
me. They researched me and became afraid of me, not because I'm the weirdo
that they claim that I am, but because they can't compete with me, my
ideas, and my friends. So, they went on my web sites and stole any ideas
that they could find, dragging my great ideas through the mud and handicapping
any advantage that using those ideas would have given them because they
can't comprehend how to properly use them as intended. As a result, the
execution of my ideas were ineffective.
If it isn't your idea and you steal it, you will never be able to exploit
it fully because it isn't your idea and you didn't earn the knowledge.
Do you think that I am going to explain the critical details behind my
ideas and help these thieves understand the mechanics behind them so that
they can properly use them? Of course not! Sure, they are great ideas,
but do you really understand what makes them work? I didn't think so.
I've seen it all over the years. Whining, immature, insecure, unprofessional
aspiring competition who are jealous of me and the work that I do. These
idiots have no shame. They often steal the ideas of mine that they can
find, and when they can't get them to work properly they use those ideas
to bait other perceived competitors into collaborating with them so they
can steal things from then. That's only one example, however. I've seen
it all. Much of the time, I will catch them using my ideas, and when I
go after them they will try to tell people that I am crazy, portray me
as a threat, and convince misguided idiots to protect them and harass
me.
I've taken legal action against a few people over that nonsense. Since
I have proof of what they have done and that I own what they have stolen,
I have won, and they are the ones who end up looking bad. Not me.
I guess that I am not the only one who has experienced this, however.
In the history of business, just about everyone who has been successful
has been victimized and ripped off by insecure people who covet what they
have.
Oh, and to the sleazy photographer out there who stole my modeling composite
card ideas five years ago, you didn't get away with it. Count your blessings
and cherish the business that you get. I'm just about ready to come for
you, and I will drive you out of business.
Actually, I'm about to do something that will change the Tampa photography
services market forever and will ultimately change the way that photographers
do business. I've been working on it for a few years now, and it's ready
to go. Read more about this at my Tampa
Photography Blog.
Ongoing
misunderstandings.
We've
already touched on communication, mutual respect, and understanding. What
about consistent and constant misunderstandings?
Some of these are born of ignorance and poor communication. People act
without knowing the full facts, and their emotions guide them. Others
are more Malicious, and are born from insecurity, prejudice, and outright
discrimination. All are highly unprofessional.
I've already stated that my life is an open book. I am a complex person
who can be eccentric at times. I'm sorry, but that's the way that I am.
I am smarter than most people and, because we are all products of our
experience and I have a lot of experience, I can be hard to understand.
I don't mean anyone any harm, although my business tactics can be aggressive.
I've never hurt anyone or anything, and it is not in my nature to. I also
do not have any vices. I really don't do anything wrong, and have no wish
to infringe upon the rights of others.
I'm also not a criminal. I am an honest person who has a heart and will
go out of my way to help people.
I know who I am and I have character which I, and others who have taken
the time to get to know me, respect. I like myself and respect myself
because I am genuine. I'm a good person.
How many others out there can say this about themselves? How many pretend
to be friendly and outgoing just so they can take advantage of people
and hurt them? I see it all the time. A person commits a horrible crime
or scams someone, and people say that they cannot understand why they
did it because they were popular, outgoing, and friendly. Well, hello.
Some people pretend. It's camouflage.
I'm different. I'm not into being fake or pretending. I'm real, and will
tell it how it is. Because of my opinions and my outspoken nature, many
will say that I'm crazy or that I'm some sort of psycho. I'm often found
to "guilty" just because I am seen and misunderstood
and not because of something that I've actually done. Well, it's their
loss. They sell themselves short because they believe a false perception.
The truth is, regardless of who they are, what they've done, and how they
feel about me, if they ever got into real trouble and needed help, I'd
be the first one to help.
If people have some negative view about me because they listen to the
wrong people and are pissed at me
because my opinions offend them, so be it. I can't control how they think,
and I would rather be damned for who I am than be one of the fake drones
in society. I know who I am, understand what I have to do, and embrace
it. I like myself, and those who know me like and respect me, too. Some
of my friends are at the top of their career fields, and some of the people
who badmouth me and spread rumors hate me for that out of jealousy, and
because my friends won't work with them.
I really don't mind if people have a negative opinion about me, as long
as it doesn't cross the line and turn into malicious slander.
Whatever. Some people will use anything to discredit you if they decide
that they don't like you. Their actions reflect on them, however, and
defines their lack of character.
Some people are simply damaged and are afraid of the unknown. They are
idiots who assume the worst without checking the facts because it is the
easiest way to justify their issues.
Morons.
Credibility
attacks?
You have to love this! I won't ramble on that much about credibility attacks,
because I've already said a lot about this subject. Let's see if I can
keep it short and sweet.
You have an insecure, unprofessional person. The person cannot compete
with a professional who is obviously better than they are. Instead of
paying their dues and working at getting better at what they do, they
try to undermine the professional by attacking their credibility. They
spread rumors about them or portray them in a bad light.
If the unprofessional person is doing something such as engaging in a
debate with a professional, and they
are losing, they don't bother to stay on topic. Instead of debating the
subject, they take the perceived easiest way out and will attack the credibility
of the professional. Of course, they can't win that way.
Hey, many of you don't like what I have to say. That's fine. If you disagree
with me and wish to debate the topics that I voice my opinion about, fine.
I love debates. Prove me wrong. Voice your opinion about the subject.
That's professional.
Just don't hit below the belt and try to discredit me so that you think
that my opinion will no longer matter. It does, and so does yours.
Besides, my references and experience are solid. I don't do anything unethical,
misleading, or illegal. Slandering me will only backfire and make you
look bad, and neither of us wants that.
Regardless,
would I have the good friends and industry supporters that I have if I
were doing something wrong? Think about it!
The
Truth Will Set Us Free.... And Make Your Lies About Me Backfire!
Well, what do you suppose will happen when people eventually find out
that you lied to them about me?
What will that do to your professional credibility?
Sure, in the short run you have people helping to spread your lies and
have a bad opinion about me. In the long run, however, many of these people
will learn the truth. They will know that you lied to them. They will
feel bad, work with me, and disregard you- all without me having to do
a thing.
Oh, yes, and it works both ways, too. Some of you think that I am badmouthing
you. Some think that I trash people and spread rumors. Well, I don't.
Sure, I am critical about what certain people do and will tell things
as I see them, but that is a world of difference from slandering people.
Especially when I voice my opinions and tell the truth.
If you still feel that I am doing something wrong, don't worry about it.
They will eventually find out, and everything will work out in the end.
If I am wrong, you will benefit from it.
I always tell people to find things out for themselves if they don't believe
me. Why would I do that if I were lying?
You've heard the stones in glass houses saying, I'm sure. I am a well-known
scam buster. I expose things for what they are, and teach people how to
do it on their own without me. Why would I do that if I were running a
scam or I was doing something wrong?
As you can guess, I'm one of the good guys. I don't do anything wrong,
am true to what I am, and am not hypocritical in any way. Deal with it.
Some of you will say that I contradict myself at times, but I don't. Your
perception of contradiction is your lack of comprehension. I'm complicated,
and there are a lot of angles and variables with some topics. Nothing
is ever black and white. What some claim to be contradiction is merely
complexity, complexity which they fail to grasp.
Deal with it.
Ahem......
To those who steal ideas and content
from my web sites:
I
own around fifty web sites now. I am a professional writer. I love to
express myself, and I write... A LOT. Even friendly Tampa blogger Lisa
can't approach the amount of writing that I do. I have a special schedule
that permits me to, despite my busy businesses, to have as much time as
I want to write. I also have lots of specialized gadgets which permit
me to write anytime and anywhere. Nothing makes me smile more than when
I write and I know that thousands of people will be reading it as soon
as I import it into Dreamweaver and upload it. As any web designer or
web master will tell you, web site content and updating web site content
is the most time consuming and laborious aspect of creating and maintaining
web sites. Content is king. The more content that you have, the more the
search engines like it, and the more people find it and read it. How do
you make content? For the most part, you WRITE IT.
Since I write more than most writers, or even entire organizations do,
my sites have no shortage of content. As a result, my ideas may be online,
but many people read about them because I dominate search engine results
on thousands of subjects. My audience is in the hundreds of thousands,
and on any given moment there are several people, somewhere, on more than
one of my sites, reading and learning.
So, what does this have to with jackasses stealing from my web sites?
Plenty. If you steal my ideas, try to use them, or attempt to pass them
off as your own, you are playing with fire, even if I didn't find out
about it. How is this?
You can never be sure who knows what. A lot of people know my ideas are
mine and will know the true source of what you steal. They will know that
you stole from me and that you are lying to them. Your scheme will backfire,
they won't want to deal with you, and word will spread about what you
have done.
A lot of modeling scams out there tried this and found out the hard way.
They plagiarized content from my free modeling resource sites and then
tried to use the information to lure models into their scams. Many of
the models knew the true source of the material, however, and they walked
out on them.
Just like badmouthing me and spreading rumors about me will backfire,
so will stealing from me. Why don't some of you try to legitimately compete
with me or try to come up with better ideas for a change? I would welcome
the challenge, and I would respect you, too!
Then again, you're not me. Most people cannot do what I have done and
what I can do. For many of you, it would take a highly organized group
of professionals, all on the same page as a cohesive team and communicating
perfectly, to compete with me. That kind of qualified productivity does
not come easy, or cheap, so good luck!
Anyone know what a force multiplier is? Anyone? Give up?
Well, let's just say that, in my case, this is the key to the future.
Think planning details, delegation, communication, accountability, profitability,
and overall momentum. What will you do when there are effectively thousands
of me? This is why I know that the Tampa indie film industry, as well
as a lot more, will one day be mine, and everyone involved will benefit.
The future of entertainment? I am betting my future on it.
It's never been a question of "if", but rather "when".
Being
Accepted?
I am sick of hearing this. The Tampa indie film clique has this running
gag where they perceive me as being lonely, insane, in emotional pain,
and that I want to be accepted by them.
Whatever. Believe what you want to- Although I don't think, for a minute,
that some of these people believe the things that they are saying.
If anyone believes this, don't flatter yourself.
The truth is, you people need me a lot more than I need you.
Let's get some things straight, rumor-mongers. I have friends. Lots of
real friends who I can trust and who are there for me. Some of my friends
are models, actors, and talent who you desperately want to work with.
You people shoot yourselves in the foot when you try to attack my credibility
and spread rumors about me. Do you think that my friends will ever want
to work with you after they see the manner in which you conduct yourselves?
I know that it works both ways, but when I am hostile I am simply defending
myself. Also, none of you have anything that I want, or need. The actors,
models, and talent that you work with simply cannot compare to my friends.
You all know this. For that matter, none of you are of any interest, or
use, to me.
You people need to be concerned about ME accepting YOU.
I have a confession to make. Even if many of you in the Tampa indie film
clique sincerely wanted to be friends or wanted to work with me, it wouldn't
happen. I find many of you boring, and dare I say, limited. Other than
indie films, we have little in common. I surround myself with smart, interesting,
talented people. Those people are not you! I refuse to surround myself
with insecure idiots.
I am sorry that I had to be so blunt, but this is how I feel. Can't any
of you out there do something cool or interesting? I'd love to see one
of you do a good Tampa indie film!
I have faith that, one day, things will be different.
Closing
Thoughts
Well, I have pretty much said it here on my Tampa Film Blog. That's it.
I hope that I clarified things.
I don't hate anyone, and feel that one day these misunderstandings will
pass. It is my hope that some of you will one day shake my hand and say
"We were wrong about you. You were right, and I see that now."
I will forgive you, and would like to respond with "It's cool.
I was wrong about you, too".
This would be a situation where I would welcome being proven wrong. Let's
see what happens.
