TAMPA BAY FILM - BLOG -

TAMPA FILM BLOG AUTHORS

The Tampa Film Blog started out as an exclusive independent film blog for the Tampa Bay market by C. A. Passinault in early 2008, as well as the main blog for Tampa Bay Film, the Tampa film site started by Passinault in January 2007. On October 1, 2009, after a year and a half of posting, this all changed. C. A. Passinault opened the blog to the entire Tampa indie film scene.
“It was obvious that my blog posts were controversial.” Passinault reflects, “I was hearing that some filmmakers in the Tampa film scene disagreed with what I was writing about. I wanted to make sure that they were heard, too. So, I opened up the blog to them, too, so that they could post Tampa Film Blog posts of their own, and they could even debate with me if they wished to”.
As of March 29, 2010, there have been no takers. There have been no blog posts on the Tampa Film Blog other than from Passinault himself. We suppose that this means that people actually understand where Passinault is coming from, and agree with the posts, or that they simply didn’t care. If the latter case applied, it could be considered to be an example of the poor state of independent film in Tampa Bay, as filmmakers whom are passionate about what they do are needed in order to make anything happen.
“The current filmmakers in the Tampa indie film scene have demonstrated, historically, that they have had no desire to debate.” Passinault explained, “They would rather slander people and attack their credibility than professionally debate with anyone who disagreed with them, or who criticized what they did. In my opinion, this is why no progress has been made with Tampa independent film, why the Tampa indie film scene is irrelevant in the independent film industry, why the Tampa film commission disrespects and uses Tampa filmmakers to market the Tampa Bay area to the competition of those filmmakers, and why there is no Tampa film community, and there never has been. I really don’t think that most Tampa filmmakers really know what they are doing; this leads to insecurity, and it is a reason why they are so defensive. This is going to change. In my opinion, a new generation of Tampa filmmakers must emerge, and most of the existing filmmakers in the Tampa Bay area should be disregarded for both their failure to advance independent film in this market, as well gross unprofessionalism and unethical conduct. Don’t even get me going about the quality of Tampa independent films, either, as 90% of them are amateurish fan efforts which make the Tampa indie film scene look unprofessional and unmarketable. As of March, 2011, all of the Tampa Bay Film sites are being positioned to support, and promote, the next generation of Tampa filmmakers. In the next few years, we will work toward putting Tampa indie film on the map, and forming the first Tampa film community”.
If you are a Tampa filmmaker, an aspiring Tampa filmmaker, or are just interested in Tampa film, you are more than welcome to post on the Tampa Film Blog. Your opinion matters, and you are even free to debate, if you wish. Will you post on the Tampa Film Blog, or will you simply not matter?
