Tampa Film Updates And Changing Gears
F-F-F-F-F-FOOOOOOORMAT
CHANGED! Yeah, baby! I just finished indexing the Tampa Film Blog and
organizing the archives. After compiling over 67 pages of text on the
main blog index, Dreamweaver was choking on the content and one of my
computers could no longer handle it.
For the sake of the search engines and the ease of updates, I spent a
few hours indexing and organizing the vast amount of information and content
on the Tampa Film Blog.
Now is the time of transition, too.
The Tampa Film Blog
will no longer be a place for me to call people out and to give press
to unprofessional, unethical people in the Tampa film scene. My opinions
are not changing, but I would rather utilize the power of the Tampa Film
Blog to address Tampa film and indie film as a whole, instead of bashing
people- or giving the impression that this blog is all about bashing people,
because this is not what this blog is supposed to be about. Stating the
obvious is overly redundant and only serves to piss people off and make
me a target. I’m sure that most of us with the beginnings of a clue
can figure out who the unprofessional people are and what the issues of
Tampa indie film are without me advertising it. On a side note, however,
this is great material for stories, stageplays, indie films, and other
works of parody. Expect much fun to be made about all of this in a variety
of media soon.
There have been other updates in the works, too. Tampa Bay Film needs
updated content, and I will be removing the opinion key from the main
menu. The menu key will be replaced by a Tampa film festival key which
will lead directly to the Tampa Film Showcase monthly Tampa film festival
and networking event series web site. Marketing and support infrastructure
for my Tampa film festival is coming along nicely, and when it debuts
five to ten years from now, the Tampa indie film market will be ready
for it, and will finally deserve it.
Just kidding. The Tampa Film Showcase will debut sooner than that. Much
sooner. As a matter of fact, the only thing that could delay it at this
time would be work on another entertainment festival, which could debut
before the film festival.
I don't want to wait too long to bring the film festival online, however,
because I have revolutionary concepts and technology which I am sure others
are working hard to figure out. Just like I don't want to wait too much
longer to start creating indie films, although some of these Tampa indie
film projects will be so radical from what anyone has seen so far that
I am sure that they will spark heated debates over their status of being
indie films. Some of these indie film projects will be very different,
and some will be experimental. I am sure that they will lead others to
reconsider their definitions of independent film and will lead to changes
throughout the indie film industry.
I counted the ideas which have been drafted out. Most of them have been
developed completely into working concepts, and are ready for production.
The count? Over 459. The odds that they will do what they are supposed
to, and that they will succeed? I'm not a betting man, but I'd place the
odds at over 80%.
I'll win some, and I'll lose some. I'm not afraid of losing, and even
look forward to the losses because I am sure that I will learn something
from the experience and will benefit from it, but the truth is I expect
success most of the time. I seldom jump into things, and I am very educated
and experienced in an area before I move in. In Tampa indie film, I have
no doubt that what I am working with will revolutionize indie film.
Anyway, I have to work on the Tampa Bay Film Online Film Festival tonight.
I am adding another 15 films this weekend, which, in addition to last
weeks 14 indie films and the indie films that were already available,
make a solid selection of 50 films available on the online film festival.
There are a few dozen in archive, which need to be formatted to the new
online film festival, and there should be at least 100 indie films available
by the new year.
The new, second-generation Tampa online film festival came online on October
10, 2008, just last month, in its own stand-alone web site. Since then,
I have some numbers. I recently checked, and it is really taking off.
It is many times more successful than the old online film festival was
which was built into the Tampa Bay Film site. Just over a month after
launch, it is already ahead of large Tampa film festival web sites in
the search engines, with over 50,000 hits a day (3,000 unique visitors),
with trends showing of rapidly growing traffic. This is incredible, and
in comparison, this Tampa Film Blog has just over 1,200 unique visitors
a day reading it (my blog traffic is also growing a lot). Our decision
to make the Tampa Bay Film Online Film Festival a stand-alone site, along
with all the hard work and long hours of creating it from scratch, are
certainly paying off.
At this rate, the Tampa Bay Film Online Film Festival will be seeing 250,000
hits a week by spring 2009.
I love it when my search engine optimization succeeds. It did help a lot,
however, when all the online film festival traffic from well-established
web sites were diverted to the Tampa Bay Film Online Film Festival on
day one. On the day that it launched, it already had a ton of traffic,
and some of that traffic were search engines. This is one of the reasons
why the site popularity is skyrocketing. Another reason is viral; many,
many people are linking to the online film festival and are sending links
to friends.
At any rate, I have some work to do on the Tampa Online Film Festival.
I am changing some things on the main menu, dropping Market and Resources
from the menu, and adding the OFF Blog and Features (Market and Resources
will still be active on the site, but will not be emphasized on the main
menu anymore- they will be selectable from the new Features section, as
well as other areas of the site).
The Tampa Bay Film Online Film Festival Blog will not replace this Tampa
Film Blog, and I will take steps to make sure that the confusion is minimal.
The on-site film festival blog will cover indie films available on the
online film festival, added films, editors picks, and other Tampa online
film festival-relevant updates. The Tampa Film Blog will continue to be
separate, and will have a larger scope in the indie film industry.
